The Fitzgerald Suite at The Plaza was designed to honour F. Scott Fitzgerald, and celebrate the release of Baz Luhrmann’s highly anticipated big-screen adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
“Designed by Catherine Martin, Academy Award® winning costume designer, production designer and co-producer of Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming feature “The Great Gatsby,” the suite has been transformed into a dramatic art deco space that channels the dynamism of the Jazz Age using authentic, period-inspired pieces that reflect the luxury and style of the upper class during the time period, which captivated Fitzgerald and drew him to The Plaza, ultimately inspiring their inclusion in his works.”
“The Fitzgerald Suite at The Plaza is a suite that F. Scott Fitzgerald and his character Jay Gatsby would be at home in – a dramatic deco space that evokes the danger, the sexiness, the glamour and a certain nostalgia for the hedonistic days of the 1920s, while still encapsulating all the comforts expected at The Plaza.” – Catherine Martin
Every detail of the suite relates to Fitzgerald’s life and his time at The Plaza, as well as Baz Luhrmann’s film. The bedspread and towels are custom embroidered with the Jay Gatsby and Daisy-inspired monogram, which are his initials outlined by a daisy flower, seen frequently throughout the film.
